For those of you "not from round 'ere", Paignton Bike Night is arguably one of the oldest such events on the weekly summer calendar in the South West for Bikers. Launched by the annual BMAD festival (Bikers Make A Difference) in the May Bank Holiday, Paignton Bike Nights occur each Wednesday night throughout the summer on the seafront of the popular Devon resort located just a couple of minutes along the coastal road from Torquay.
As well as copious amounts of top notch food on offer from the Geopark Cafe set to the theme and soundtrack of Elvis Presley it gives folks the chance to have a wander around viewing lots of two (and three wheeled) eye candy. Local Motorcycle Clubs mix with holiday makers trailing their kids around, FaceTiming 'Granny' to tell her about all the chrome on display.
There are machines of all shapes and sizes from new to classic, learner machines to high capacity beasts. Custom Chops and Adventure Tourers - whatever your fancy, it is all about mixing with folk who appreciate the lifestyle in whatever guise you choose to embrace it.
Who knows, you may even find inspiration for your next ride and the chance to ask the owner how good, or bad, it is to live with.
Within two minutes of arriving I was passed a leaflet for the 'Custom Motorcycle Show' which is being hosted by the 'Satan's Slaves MC Devon'. For anyone into their customs or
just curious to see a stunning display of bikes, it is the 23rd of July 2022 at 'The Kings' pub in Cowick Street, Exeter. Gates open at 13:00 with live bands throughout the day and trophies for best category of machines. I am not optimistic my BMW would win any prizes so will just go for some 'smile therapy'. I should add that the Custom Event is run for the South West Blood Bikes Charity.
If you are not local to Paignton, or you are and just fancy a change of scenery, there are numerous opportunities to get to a bike night on almost any day of the week. A simple Google search on 'Bike Nights' throws up loads of hits - and a search on FaceBook reveals even more. So you really have no excuse - It really is a superb way to spend a summer evening!
