THE ALPS INCLUDINGÂ THE ITALIAN JOB
30th June to 14th July 2022
14 days - Alps, Europe
To say we are excited to be back in the saddle is the worlds biggest understatement and we are pleased to provide this superb premium tour.
With more passes than Jedward at a pub-quiz, the Italian Job visits some of the most incredible roads in the Austrian, Italian and Swiss alps. In additional to that, fans of the 1969 ‘Italian Job’ movie are in for a very special treat.
We have picked some of best alpine roads for you. Grossglockner, Timmelesjoch, Stelvio, Umbrail, Tremola, Susten, Nufenen, Furka, Grimsel, San Bernardino, Jaufen, Silvrettastrasse, Great St Bernard, the list goes on…
For the Italian Job fans, the Great St Bernard Pass, featured in the opening scene of the movie but it doesn’t stop there as we also stop at the location of arguably the most famous ‘cliffhanger’ in cinematic history! The final scene, where Michael Caine’s coach and stolen gold is left hanging dangling over the side of the road.

Thursday 30th June - We meet the day before crossing the English Channel in a luxury 4-star Hotel located 20-minute ride from the Channel Tunnel. This gives you a chance to meet your Moto Ventura team along with your fellow riders. During the evening we will provide a ‘Tour Briefing’ which will include a closer look at the itinerary that you can look forward to during your time with us.
Friday 1st July - We grab an early breakfast and head off across the Channel. Our first day is used to make significant progress and we ride from Calais to our Hotel at the top of the Black Forest in Baden Baden. With ample stops for breaks, this big first day ensures we get to the ‘good stuff’ early and get to spend more time in the Alps later.

Saturday 2nd July - The ‘Warm Up’ starts here. We ride down through the Black Forest, utilising parts of the amazing B500 before skirting across the top of Lake Constance and down into Lichtenstein for our modern hi-tech hotel.

Sunday 3rd July - With our appetite whetted it is time to really get to grips with those Alpine Passes and we ride down to Italy. We ride the Silveretta Pass, before heading south alongside Lake Reschen with its enchanting and mysterious bell tower projecting from the surface of the Lake. We then climb the twists and turns of the Umbrail Pass, which was only fully asphalted in 2015 and is the highest paved road in Switzerland. We cross the border into Italy and descend the western ramp of Stelvio Pass to the cosy town of Bormio where we find our hotel. That evening we spend enjoying the delights of this vibrant town with the chance to dine at the best steak house in Italy!

Monday 4th July - If you think the previous day was good, wait for this one! We leave Bormio to climb the same western ramp with descended the day before pausing for a piccy and wander at the top because we then ride the infamous Eastern ramp of the mighty Stelvio Pass. Not a fast road, is it one which draws in petrol heads from around the world for its sheer magnitude and presence. The view from the top is jaw jaw-dropping. After stopping for lunch we continue east and ride the Great Dolomite Road and Colle Santa Lucia before arriving for the night at Cortina d’Ampezzo in the heart of the Dolomites. Our hotel for the night is classed as a historical landmark in Cortina.

Tuesday 5th July - From the tight twisties of the Stelvio Pass and the Dolomites we ride north back in to Austria via the long smooth sweeping bends of the Grossglockner high alpine road, a beautiful and serene high alpine pass and at 2571 metres lunch at the Edelweissspitze, a sweet traditional restaurant marking the highest accessible point on the road. The view from here is nothing short of spectacular. Once we have descended from the Grossglockner we head east via some relaxing ‘wind-down' scenery to Innsbruck.

Wednesday 6th July - From Innsbruck, we head south and another quick hop into Italy to ride the Jaufen Pass and San Leonardo Pass before climbing into Austria again and the wonderful Timmelsjoch. This road is a real eye-opener and a number of modern art sculptures adorn the route. At the end of this fabulous road is the Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum. Only opened in 2016 it was devastated by fire in 2020 while housing some of the worlds rarest and most priceless motorcycles. With reconstruction rapidly underway we hope we can revisit this Pheonix from the flames when we pass for this tour in 2022. We will keep you updated with news of progress.

Our journey continues from Austria and into Switzerland, to Davos via the Fluela Pass. Tranquil and surreal with a coffee and cake stop thrown in, the Fluela Pass has long been one of our favourite resting points, We then continue on to Davos for our hotel.

Thursday 7th July - Davos to Grimsel. Just as you think things couldn’t get any better we take it to a whole new level. Leaving Davos we head south on a beautiful ribbon of tarmac, the San Bernadino Pass where we take a moment and set ourselves up to ride a Swiss National monument road, the Tremola San Gottardo. Climbing 300 metres in 4 kilometres over 24 hairpin bends the road is short but oh so sweet! After the Tremola we head to the Furka Pass. Most people have seen the Furka on the big screen or TV but are completely unaware. It was the road used by Sean Connery’s James Bond in the movie Goldfinger. Ascending and descending the Furka then leads up our final Pass for the day - The Grimsel Pass as our hotel is situated at the very top and is sublime. We stay here at our hotel, the Grimsel Hospiz for the next two nights.

Friday 8th July - A technical day off but it is a motorcycle holiday after all so a route is planned taking in the following Swiss Passes. Nufenen, Tremola and Susten Passes. We then stop for a spot of lunch at somewhere quite remarkable - Piz Gloria! If following in Bonds tyre tracks wasn’t enough to make the ‘Bondies’ smile on the Furka Pass, today we take a hearty lunch at 2970 metres and the revolving 007 restaurant. Used as the secret hideout of Ernst Stavro Blofeld we ride 3 cable cars to climb the 2970 metres to the restaurant. Complete with bond museum after lunch you can enjoy exploring Piz Gloria, pick up some Bond memorabilia or taking the cable car to the next stop down, challenge yourself on the ‘Thrill Walk’, a partial glass walkway around the side of the mountain. After Piz Gloria, we jump on the bike and ride the 50 miles back to our hotel and complete the final, northern ramps of the Grimsel Pass.

Saturday 9th July - Still buzzing? Brace yourself as today we head back to Italy via more 60’s cinema history and the Great St Bernard Pass as featured in the opening sequence of the original Italian Job. You can hear Matt Munro singing ‘On Days Like These’ with every turn.

Sunday 10th July - An unusual day for us as the route today is a dead-end. Yes, we ride out and back on the same road but there is a good reason as today we visit the exact location of the ultimate movie cliff-hanger - The final scene of the Original Italian Job where the get-away coach transporting Michael Caine, his gang and all of the stolen gold leaves the road and ends the movie hanging precariously over the edge of alps. Once here, weather depending, we will throw up the drone for a fantastic team photo!

Monday 11th July - With our trip reaching its conclusion we start to head back towards Blighty and in doing so, today ride one of the prettiest roads and heading back to France to take in the view of Lac de Roselend before arriving at Lake Annecy for the evening.

Tuesday 12th July - Annecy to Nancy. The next two days are about making progress as we ride back towards the UK

Wednesday 13th July - Nancy to Bruges. More progress, we spend our final night in Bruges where we get a chance to relax and explore this beautiful city, but not before a quick ‘debrief' and presentation of course.

Thursday 14th - A short hop on the bikes and we head to the Channel Tunnel Calais for our crossing back to the UK.
