Midlife Crisis - Two painful words muttered by non-biker friends when you reveal your latest motorcycle purchase. But is there even such a thing as a Midlife Crisis and if so, is that what we are going through when we buy that new bike?
Sigmund Freud put the midlife crisis down to a fear of impending death!
Sigmund Wilton's theory is that it is, in fact, a fear of not feeling alive, and I call it the 'Midlife Light-Bulb Moment'.

Whatever you have done throughout life, your goals, your aspirations, be it regarding family life achievements, progression or promotion at work or social status, everyone reaches a point where they reach that magical feeling of 'not giving a crap about what other people think.' A kind of 'two-fingers' to the norm.
Accompanying this light-bulb moment is a rediscovered self-confidence, self-belief or desire to find your own spirit of adventure. The realisation that you are in control of your life and that actually, when it really matters, the only person you need to keep happy is yourself. That may seem a little selfish and I am not suggesting for a minute that you throw aside your responsibilities to others. What I am suggesting however is that you don't neglect your own needs and ambitions. Your own bucket list. Everyone else is big enough to look after themselves so take a moment, reset, re-start, re-program and revive your lost dreams.

Why shouldn't you go and do what makes you happy, do what makes you grow as a human being, what enriches your life and well-being because ultimately, your friends, and by that I mean the ones who really matter, will love you more for doing so.
"Midlife Light-Bulb Moment - The moment it dawns on you that you can be as brilliant as you want to be, and you don't need anyones permission to do so!"

Who cares if the neighbours frown when you park your latest convertible sports car outside, with mutterings of, "How you going to fit the grandchildren in the back?"
Because ultimately life is about 'here and now!' It's about ignoring the negative people and surrounding yourself with positive 'can do' people and realising that there is a big world out there and that a motorcycle is one of the best ways to find it.

Naturally, as well as a motorcycle, there is also a motorcycle tour out there for you! That old saying, "It doesn't matter what you ride, it just matters that you ride" can be added to with the words "and where you ride it".
