A Very Fine Rider!

Writer: John WiltonJohn Wilton

On our trips, as regular Moto Ventura Riders can tell you, we use a little system to generate 'light hearted debate' during are time around the dinner table each evening, or even in the hotel bar!

Introducing the Moto Ventura 'fine' system.

Better than winning an Oscar!

The 'fines', which are kept as a tally against the riders name and not a financial 'fine', are divided into,

Rider Fines

Pillion Fines

General Fines

Miscellaneous Fines

Rider Fines

  • Riding on the wrong side of the road.

  • Riding off in the wrong direction to everyone else

  • Riding off with ANOTHER motorcycle group without realising

  • Getting lost/passing the group without realising and continuing on your merry way

  • Dropping your bike

  • Forgetting where you parked your bike

  • Putting in the wrong fuel (Yes, it has happened!)

  • Riding off without your pillion (if you have one!)

  • Getting fined by the local police will attract an MVT fine to rub further salt in

  • Side Stand Stall. Selecting a gear while the stand is down causing the engine to cut out.

Pillion Fines

  • Screaming

  • Falling asleep

  • Dropping anything from the bike while in motion

General Fines

  • Speaking to a local/foreign person in a fake imitation accent hoping this will make you understood aka 'Doing a Del Boy!'

  • Shouting in English to make yourself more understood 'ICH BIN FROM ENG-GER-LAND!' aka 'The Basil Fawlty'

  • Speaking to another helmet wearer thinking it is someone from your own group.

  • Attempting to pay in Sterling

  • Failed haggling attempts aka 'The Brian of Nazareth'

  • Leaving anything behind in Hotels/Cafes/Stops/Venues

  • Getting lost within any hotel complex

  • Emergency stop signal abuse (hand signals are discussed during first-night briefing)

  • Helmet strap not fastened

  • Leaving a disc lock (or similar anti-theft device) on your bike and trying to ride off

Miscellaneous Fines

  • Other incidents not covered by the above but worthy of a fine aka 'the MUGA'

Fines are self-disclosing - attempts by the offender to hide an offence or to deflect blame on to another rider will result in a further fine.

Fine Rider Trophy presented at the end of each tour

The rider with the least number of fines recorded against them is awarded the coveted 'Fine Rider' Trophy, presented on the final night of the tour.

But don't worry you won't have to wait until the end of the trip to get recognition. Along with the banter, finger pointing and belly laughs discussing who has incurred what 'fine' each night, we also have daily award which we will reveal more info about at the pre-tour briefing.

Keep smiling folks! It is shaping up to be a great year!
